Virtual CISO services

Bring security leadership into the room.

A virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) gives your organisation access to experienced security leadership. We work with your executives and technical teams to decide which risks need action, who owns them and what to report to the board.

A supplier cannot patch before renewal

The system owner explains the exposure and the supplier’s patch date. Leadership needs a decision it can revisit.

Illustrative risk decision

Options
The vCISO compares an interim restriction, a compensating control and a change of supplier, including cost and disruption.
Authority
The authorised executive decides whether to accept the remaining risk. The risk register names the decision owner and review date.
Follow-through
The next board report shows whether the agreed action was completed. The vCISO helps leadership review any outstanding decision.

Engagement scope

Where a virtual CISO can help

Set the security direction

Build a roadmap around the organisation’s operating model, risk appetite and most important services.

Support the people doing the work

Agree owners, support policy and assurance activity, and connect technical improvements to business outcomes.

Agree decision rights

Prepare board reporting that records the risk, business impact, treatment options and decision owner. Agree which executives can accept residual risk, approve policy changes and authorise incident actions.

How the engagement starts

Agree the mandate

At the first working session, the executive sponsor and vCISO agree a written mandate covering the business services in scope, the reporting line and the decisions reserved for management. The sponsor confirms who may approve spending and who may accept the remaining risk. Choose ongoing fractional leadership, interim cover or help with a defined programme.

Establish the baseline

We review the risk register, incidents, supplier dependencies, policies and any audit findings. Interviews with IT, operations, legal and business owners help distinguish a documented control from one that actually works.

Set priorities

The first roadmap lists the priority actions, the business reason for each, its owner and its target date. The vCISO recommends the priorities. The executive sponsor agrees the sequence and refers decisions above their authority to the board.

Working with your team

With IT and security

At the agreed working meetings, we review changes, incidents, exceptions and outstanding actions. We help technical owners prioritise controls and remove blockers. Your teams retain their operational responsibilities.

With the board

A concise board pack explains material risks, changes since the last review and decisions needed. Measures can include overdue high-risk fixes, supplier reviews and whether recovery exercises met the agreed objectives. We agree the reporting cadence with the sponsor.

During an incident or audit

We can help rehearse escalation, brief executives, coordinate evidence and track corrective actions. Incident command, forensics, out-of-hours response and independent certification are separately scoped responsibilities.

Preparation

Scope the relationship

Bring your security roadmap or risk register, recent assurance findings, the next board date and the decision that is currently blocked. We’ll agree the leadership capacity, deliverables, escalation route and meeting schedule that suit your organisation.
