Wireless network testing

Check who can join the wireless networks at a site and what a connected device can reach. A visitor’s phone, a staff laptop and a managed device should each receive the access your policy allows.

What can a guest device reach on the wireless network?

A device on the guest network can reach an interface intended for IT staff.

Illustrative test report

Boundary
Name the site, guest and staff networks, authorised device and service the visitor should not reach.
Evidence
Record the permitted network path separately from whether the interface still requires authentication.
Verification
After the network-rule change, reconnect the agreed device and repeat the same access check.

When to choose this service

  • You are opening a site or replacing access points and controllers.
  • Staff, visitors and connected devices share a building and need different levels of access.
  • You have changed guest access, device enrolment or authentication settings.

Select the physical sites, network names and access points to include, and agree where testing can take place. If coverage beyond the premises matters, ask for a signal-coverage check as a specific part of the engagement.

Access between networks. Name the guest and staff network identifiers, an authorised device and the internal service the guest device should be unable to reach.

Signal coverage. Name the premises, permitted survey areas and the network you want mapped. A coverage-only survey can record signal strength without joining networks or testing adjacent organisations.

What we examine

  • How the selected networks authenticate users and devices and how access point or gateway settings affect access.
  • Whether approved test devices on guest and staff networks can reach only the agreed services.
  • Where requested, where a named network is visible around the premises. The report distinguishes signal range from access to internal systems.

What to prepare

  • Site addresses, a local contact, wireless network names and the approximate number of access points.
  • Which networks are centrally managed, who can authorise access and which staff, guest or device profiles should be represented.
  • A floor plan or site boundary when coverage is in scope, provider permissions and any sensitive operating hours.

Agreed boundaries

Name the authorised networks, premises and test devices. Agree any active wireless technique separately. Exclude neighbouring networks, deliberate disconnection of live users and radio jamming from the baseline scope.

What you receive

Findings identify the site and wireless network affected, what access was demonstrated and which configuration or network rule needs attention. A coverage map is an optional scoped output.

Follow-up

Reconnect the agreed test device and repeat the access check after the configuration change. Confirm the original site and network when arranging a retest under Vambrace’s 12-month offer for vulnerabilities found.
